International Activities

At Spalding Parish, we speak a diverse range of languages - something we are so proud of and love to celebrate. To prepare children for life beyond our school, we learn about different countries and cultures, though our Geography, RE, Languages and History curriculum.

Throughout the year, we have planned events to ensure our children learn to be good global citizens:

Term 1 - Language Workshops begin at Spalding Academy

Children in Year 5 attend language workshops run by Year 9 Language Ambassadors. This is a great opportunity to practise their language skills and get a taste of life at secondary school.

Term 2 - Letter Writing to Spain

Children in Year 5 and 6 will be writing letters to our partner school in Madrid.  They will be writing about themselves and modelling good written English to support children in Spain with their language learning.  They will be looking forward to their responses.

Term 2 - World of Work launch sessions

4th and 5th December - Our first World of Work activities take place.  This year, the focus skills are: Communication and Global Citizenship. Children in KS2 will learn to develop these skills across the year and learn how these are used in their focus industry.

Term 3 - National Story-telling week.

We will be inviting parents to share stories with children during the day. We will use this as an opportunity to hear stories in a range of different languages. We love celebrating the multitude spoken at Spalding Parish.

Children in EYFS learn all about Chinese New Year. They will explore these celebrations, and recreate them in their setting, giving them an insight into a different culture.

Term 4 - International Mother Languages Day

Lithuanian School will present to the whole school in Lithuanian to teach us about their culture through stories.  Children across school to take part in activities to celebrate all the languages we speak.

Term 5 - French Cafe

Year 4 will host a French Cafe for families to enjoy.  This will give real purpose to their language learning and teach them about French culture.

Term 6 - Travel Apprenticeship Group to visit our partner school in Madrid

Twenty children in KS2 will be visiting our partner school. They will be learning about the travel and tourism industry, creating digital content with advice from media experts and taking part in a collaborative project with the school.
